Bear Valley Community Association is a self-supporting, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. For the 2024-2025 school year we will operate the school age childcare program (SACC) before and after each school day, on parent-teacher conferences, and most in-service days. We are licensed for up to eighty children, five to thirteen years of age, who attend Bear Valley Elementary. You must be enrolled in the SACC program before attending.
The Municipality of Anchorage-Child Care Licensing licenses SACC. Our program has been planned to meet or exceed Anchorage Municipal and State of Alaska Licensing standards.
The SACC program is not affiliated with Bear Valley Elementary school. Therefore, no BVE student is automatically enrolled, even incoming kindergartners.
Our program is licensed for up to 80 children therefore your child may be placed on a waitlist until a spot becomes available. We cannot hold spots in the program for families, and our enrollment is based on a first come first serve basis.
Our hours of operation are 7:00am-9:00am on Mondays, 7:00am-8:00am, Tuesday-Friday. and 2:30pm-6:00 pm, Monday-Friday. We are closed and do not offer care on certain Holidays and the ASD Winter & Spring Breaks. A master calendar of closures can be found in our Parent Handbook, link below.
We also offer extended hours on Parent/Teacher Conference Days from TBA, and full-day service on in-service days from TBA, for an additional fee.
We seek staff who are passionate about working with children and can bring something new and exciting to our program. All staff must pass a background check prior to working in the program, are trained in CPR/First Aid, Health & Safety, complete Mandated Reporter training, and obtain a MOA Food Handlers Certification. Staff are required to participate in a wide variety of trainings related to children and their development, as well as health and safety, throughout the school year. Safety of the children is the number one priority of all staff in our program.
Children at SACC are free to choose from a wide variety of activities such as art, gym, outdoors, dress-up and dramatic play, building and “manipulative” activities, board games, and cooking/science projects. If they choose, they can just “hang out” and relax with friends or read a book. Homework time is also available along with SACC staff support if needed..
SACC children are provided a nutritious and yummy morning breakfast and afternoon snack. Morning Snack is provided between 7:15 am- 7:45 am and afternoon snack is served promptly at 2:30pm. A detailed menu is included in our Parent Handbook, scroll down to view a pdf version.
SACC registration for the 2024-2025 school year is open to everyone.
Spots are available on a first come first served basis.
There is an active waitlist.
The software we use for registration has undergone some major changes recently. Registration problems seem to be fixed, however if you have any issues please send us an email.
